General Information

The Winter Alumni College event series will showcase the skills and passions of Wooster alumni in 60 to 90-minute interactive and hands-on courses. Winter Alumni College courses will be spread across two weeks, led by alumni, and are open to alumni and current students. Virtual class sizes will be intentionally small – approximately 25-30 people per class – to mimic a Wooster classroom and provide a high-quality hands-on learning experience that provides space for instructor-to-student interaction. We are asking prospective alumni instructors to apply by November 6, 2020. After which, applications will be reviewed by a committee from The Office of Alumni & Family Engagement. Approved courses will be held virtually on Zoom, with events being hosted midday on the weekend or weekday evenings in February 2021.

Strong courses will be interactive and provide an engaging learning environment for attendees. Course Instructors do not need to have teaching experience. We simply ask that you are passionate about the subject matter you would like to share with your fellow alumni and current Wooster students!

Examples of Possible Courses:

  • How to Make a Sourdough Starter
  • Three Safe Science Experiments to Do at Home with Your Elementary School Students
  • How to Complete an Art Project or Craft
  • Wine Tasting 101
  • How to Rehab Furniture
  • What to Consider when Apartment Hunting

Instructor Application & Further Details

The Winter Alumni College program is a new opportunity for alumni to showcase their talents, skills, and knowledge. Alumni can sign up to teach a one-time, 60 to 90-minute virtual course for their fellow Scots.

All sessions will be taught online in February 2021. If you would like to teach a course, please complete the application below by Friday, November 6, 2020. Alumni selected to teach their course will be notified on Friday, November 20, 2020.

For the pilot of the program, we will be offering up to twelve courses from a variety of interest areas. If your course is not chosen this first round, your application will automatically be considered for a potential second round.

Strong course applications will be specific about what the participants will learn during your session, are designed to be engaging, and will be fun! Note: All topics are welcome, as long as the subject matter is legal.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Stephanie Marengere ’16, Assistant Director of Regional Programs, at or 330-263-2077.
